Abstract

Female serial killers have existed all throughout history, but it was not until the end of last century that society became aware of their existence, therefore, they have not been studied entirely. Over the last few decades several authors have created different typologies, of both male and female serial killers to try and study them better, as well as comprehend them. Female serial killer typologies are relatively uncommon and the ones that have been created, even though they provide useful information, are incomplete or outdated. The goal of the present study is to propose a new female serial killer oriented typology. Taking into consideration essential factors in categorization of serial killers like motive, methodology and victim selection. It aspires as well to add external but necessary elements like differentiation of roles of power and a few new subcategorizations as well. Hopefully this research will be useful to categorize and identify better a type of criminal that has been ignored by both the media and society for several years.
