Determination of the best leachate treatment system for the Lago Agrio Landfill. The study begins with the physicochemical characterization of leachates produced in two cells (domes, one and two), where all solid residues generated in this town are currently discharged. Two methods were proposed for their treatment: (1) aeration – coagulation – flocculation and chlorination; (2) ozonization – coagulation – flocculation and chlorination. The results of each treatment are evaluated in terms of the following variables: pH, DQO, reaction time and the quantity of chemicals used. The results indicate that the first method -- aeration- coagulation and flocculation sodium hypochlorite – is the best option since it reduces the DQO demand by a factor of up to 99.23%, while pH, ammonia nitrogen, DBO5 and total solids, among other factors, are found to be within the ranges established by the Unified Text of Secondary Environmental Legislation (TULAS) for discharge into a body of fresh water.
