Definition, focus and, scope

Revista Economía is a biannual publication of the Institute of Economic Research (IIE) of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of Universidad Central del Ecuador (UCE).

The first issue of Revista Economía, when the School of Economics was attached to the Faculty of Jurisprudence and Social Sciences of the UCE, appeared in May 1951, the same year as the foundation of the Higher Institute for Research and Postgraduate Studies. When the Faculty of Economic Sciences was created in 1951, the magazine kept its validity, today in charge of the Institute of Economic Research (IIE).

Revista Economía pursues a plural and diverse thought in the economy and in the social sciences to respond with alternative and critical voices to the problems and challenges of Latin American society.

The main objective of Revista Economía is to be an editorial space for meeting and dialogue between researchers and academics in the field of social sciences, to develop proposals and emerging alternative models; in addition to promoting and disseminating the plural and diverse economic thought of the UCE —as well as of researchers and academics outside the institution, national and international—, which includes critical voices from the economy and the social sciences related to it.

The addressees of the journal are people, organizations and, institutions of the public or private sector that are linked in the work of the critical economy in Latin America.

It should be noted that at least 75% of the content of Revista Economía has the character of original research within the scientific and academic fields.

The articles sent to Revista Economía will be subject to a review process that has the following phases:

  1. Articles sent that comply with the formal requirements indicated in the publication regulations of Revista Economía are considered received and said receipt is communicated to the authors by mail. This notice is different from the one generated automatically by the paper submission system.
  2. The articles received are subjected to an initial evaluation that will assess the thematic relevance, textual adequacy, and quality of the text. This prior evaluation is in charge of the editor of the dossier, in the case of the works sent to that section, or of a member of the Editorial Team in the case of the remaining sections. The decision of whether or not an article is sent for blind peer review is informed by email to the authors.
  3. If the article has been valued positively, it goes through an arbitration process under the modality of blind peer review. This process consists of sending the paper to at least two academic and anonymous reviewers, people external to the publishing institution (UCE), and to the Editorial Board. Peer readers are experts or researchers related to the topic addressed in the articles.
  4. Readers, for their recommendation, handle criteria such as relevance, originality, relevance, contribution to the investigated topic, theoretical solvency, critical or argumentative apparatus, methodology, information management, final considerations or conclusions, references, and clarity of the exposition.
  5. Based on the foregoing, the blind peers decide whether the article is: a) publishable without modifications or with minor modifications; b) only publishable with major modifications; c) is not publishable even if major modifications are made.
  6. In case of discrepancies in the results of the evaluations, the paper is sent to a third evaluator, whose opinion defines the publication or not of the work.
  7. The results of the arbitration process are always final.
  8. The article selection process takes between four and six months.
