In the economic history of the country is the first recorded information on the operation of a obraje in one of the colonial microregions where early industrialization had an unexpected boom; remember that in those same years were produced in Riobamba: rigging, ropes, ropes and ropes used in the shipyards of Guayaquil and Panama for the construction of ships. This importance of the early industry was written in the Royal Decree of September 1565 that recognized the legitimacy of the Quiteño industry which, like the others that operated in the continent.
