Abstract
In the 1980s, Ecuador's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) registered an average annual growth rate equivalent to 1.7%, but as a consequence of higher population growth, the average annual growth rate of per capita GDP registered a negative growth rate of 2.5%, although in per capita terms it evolved at a negative rate of 2.5%, i.e., during the last two decades the national economy was plunged into a sharp recession.
