Abstract
In the last two decades, under the euphemism of balancing public finances and reactivating the economy, adjustment and stabilization policies were implemented, induced by international financial organizations and enthusiastically supported by the country's economic and political elites. The adjustment policies included the elimination of subsidies, the dismissal of public sector employees and workers, the reduction of wages and salaries in real terms, among other measures.
