Abstract

An analysis of the development of the Latin American economy shows a rapid decline in the growth rate in the period 1980-2000, compared to 1950-1980. One of the main reasons for the reduction in the rate of development is linked to the change in the economic model, which, in the last two decades, has gone from an economy controlled by the State to one guided by market forces, with the expectation that the allocation of resources for investment will be carried out in accordance with the free play of supply and demand in both the domestic and international markets.
