Política económica y planes de ajuste: una interpretación del proceso inflacionario

Abstract

Históricamente, el Ecuador se ubica entre aquellos países caracterizados por mantener moderados incrementos de precios. Tomando como referencia el año 1950, a excepción de 1951, la tasa de variación del índice de precios al consumidor nunca fue superior al 10% anual hasta el año 1972. A partir de este año y hasta la actualidad, el Ecuador no volverá a vivir procesos como el descrito; por el contrario, será testigo de un proceso inflacionario variable pero con tendencia creciente hasta el año 1989 que se cierra con un índice de inflación superior al 85 por ciento.
