Abstract
In Ecuador, more than twenty years after the beginning of the so-called debt crisis, voices of concern are increasingly heard about a problem that persists and has a perverse impact on the Ecuadorian economy and society. Thinking back, it should be remembered that in the early eighties, Latin American economies and Ecuador in particular, had to face this crisis, which forced some countries to declare a moratorium on their debts, in a context of a sharp fall in the terms of trade, rising international interest rates and the sudden outflow of capital, exacerbated by the closure of international financial markets.
