Abstract

This article was scanned by the Aurelio Espinosa Polit Ecuadorian Library.
Demography from its origins has been the science of the statistical study of the population and therefore quantitative and descriptive ("graphy"), its vocation is not, then, to explain the social facts that are implicit in the observed numerical variations. It is not a "logy", a demology that seeks to explain the relationship between social fact and population numbers? This differentiation does not respond to an academic concern (whose value will be insignificant), but to a concern of a different nature, which lies in the ever greater social consequences that we wish to obtain from demography.
