Abstract
El objeto de esta ponencia es contribuir a la discusión del primer punto del temario de la VI Asamblea de Facultades y Escuelas de Economía de América Latina. En primer lugar, se formularán algunas consideraciones sobre los requisitos, exigencias y alcances de la formación del economista latinoamericano, como marco de referencia para intentar una evaluación de la enseñanza actual de esta disciplina en la región. En segundo lugar, se esboza un plan general de formación del economista de América Lati9na, teniendo en cuenta los criterios expresados. Por último, se intenta una evaluación en base a la información disponible en el momento de elaborar esta ponencia de los pensa vigentes en universidades latinoamericanas.
