This article is a set of methodological notes, a frame of reference for a research project on the economic evolution of Ecuadorian society. Although they were not intended for publication because they constitute provisional material still subject to discussion, it has seemed convenient to present them since in some way they offer a perspective of analysis of dependence that aims to strip this category both of the mechanistic content to which the scholastic left has relegated it, and of the ideological character that the new national-developmentalist tendencies of our bourgeoisie have conferred on it.
