The current monetary crisis shaking the Western world is not a random or incidental phenomenon, but the consequence and manifestation of the deep contradictions taking place within the capitalist system. The center of gravity of the crisis is undoubtedly the American economy and, therefore, any attempt at an organized explanation of the vicissitudes of the monetary system must particularly consider the evolution and conditions of that economy from the moment the United States emerged at the forefront of the capitalist universe.
