If one wishes to historically characterize the present era, it should first be recognized that the present generation is the bridge between the past and a future of very particular characteristics, due to the decisive influence of scientific and technological progress. This progress is so broad and intense that it is transforming, through science and its applications, not only business activity but also the social structure, the wealth of peoples and even the ways of life of men, their customs and habits.
