Abstract
Este artículo fue escaneado por la Biblioteca Ecuatoriana Aurelio Espinosa Pólit.
La República del Ecuador, como país independiente en el plano político, apenas tiene un poco más de un siglo, que en el devenir de los pueblos es un segundo en el reloj del tiempo, como lo calificará uno de nuestros mejores poetas. Su línea de conducta económica ha sido la de todos los pueblos dependientes, de economía débil, exportadora de artículos alimenticios y de materias primas; sujeta, en los primeros años de su vivir republicano, al dictado de militares extranjeros que se encargaron de forjar su independencia para contar con un feudo más, donde podían realizar toda clase de exacciones, sin restricción alguna.
