Abstract
Este artículo fue escaneado por la Biblioteca Ecuatoriana Aurelio Espinosa Pólit.
La Dirección General de Estadística y Censos, en cumplimiento de sus propias finalidades, afrontó la ardua empresa de levantar, por primera vez en la historia del país, un censo nacional de población, el mismo que formó parte del Censo Continental de las Américas de 1850. Los trabajos de elaboración y publicación de los resultados se encuentran, a al presente, en su fase conclusiva, con respecto a cinco características fundamentales, a saber: sexo, edad, estado civil, alfabetismo y población económicamente activa e inactiva. Han circulado ya catorce boletines provinciales, y muy pronto aparecerán los de las tres provincias restantes.
