Dolarización en America Latina, una aproximación al caso ecuatoriano

Abstract
Este artículo fue escaneado por el Sistema Integrado de Bibliotecas de la Universidad Central del Ecuador.
La dolarización de la economía ecuatoriana a comienzos del 2000 convalidó sin ninguna duda la importancia de la unión monetaria en la actual agenda internacional. Una buena parte del debate académico correspondiente remite a la tesis primigenia de Robert Mundell sobre área monetaria optima. En este trabajo se resumen algunos aspectos teóricos-empíricos de esa discusión, se deja planteada la necesidad de mirar con mayor detenimiento el rol de los shocks externos – la vulnerabilidad – sobre las economías pequeñas, sus potenciales participes, y se examina descriptivamente el desempeño de la experiencia ecuatoriana.
