Efecto psicosocial en torno al uso de la píldora del día después

Abstract

Due to the high rate of teenage pregnancy in Ecuador, the Government through its Ministry of Public Health in the month of March this year ordered to be delivered free contraceptives to prevent such pregnancies, many of them unwanted. The pill was the so-called "morning after pill" or Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP), whose main component is levonorgestrel.

The presence of this pill led to a controversy, and while some argued that it was abortive, others refused. However, this has not forbidden many teenagers and even adults make use of this method with freedom and confidence in their effectiveness.

This research is not intended to describe whether or not the pill is abortiva, about that a lot of information exists rather seeks input on the effects it is having on psychosocial behavior of those that deal directly or indirectly with its use.

For this work we conducted a survey of 700 people, including adolescents, youth, professionals and parents.

The results show the effect of psychosocial average levels of promiscuity, debauchery, loss of values and disrespect to the female human body, undiminished pregnancies and especially the lack of information on the concept and actual function the morning after pill.

The findings suggest paying attention to education in the delivery of continuous information, especially in the schools, in the family dialogue rescue, in the rescue of the same family, as well as the awareness teenage users, youth and young adults, must make.
