Diabetes mellitus tipo I (insulino dependiente): nuevas perspectivas de protección a la célula beta del páncreas
Resumen
La mejor comprensión de los factores etiológicos envueltos en la diabetes mellitus insulino dependiente (DMID) trajo consigo la busca de agentes terapéuticos capaces de modificar la génesis de la diabetes, protegiendo y/o recuperando las células beta. Las tentativas hasta ahora realizadas, especialmente en modelos animales, pero también en pacientes humanos, incluyen: terapia antiviral, inmunoterapia, barredores de radicales libres y quelantes de hierro, inhibidores de la enzima poli (ADP—ribosa) sintetasa y dietas ricas en proteínas.
