Abstract

Prostitution is considered a psychosocial and public health problem. Although women in prostitution suffer numerous mental and physical affectations, when they access health and welfare institutions, they find that their professionals do not have adequate training to help them. Increasingly, the medical literature on the subject proposes programs to address the risks to which they are exposed on a daily basis and which, with the necessary resources, can bring about change at all levels. But it is still not enough. For this reason, in this article a bibliographic review of the PubMed database and a manual search (bibliographic sweep) are carried out in order to identify and make visible the mental and physical problems suffered by women in prostitution, as an indicative summary for changes and policies that can improve the care provided by health services and authorities, and make more effective the access to spaces for comprehensive reparations.
