Simulación con Plaxis 2D del uso de wick drains y precarga en suelos arcillosos

Los suelos arcillosos blandos representan un desafío frecuente en el diseño de cimentaciones en zonas industriales, dado que su baja capacidad portante limita las opciones constructivas convencionales. Este trabajo estudia el desempeño del sistema de drenes verticales (wick drains) con precarga escalonada como alternativa de mejoramiento en el sector Brisas de Procarsa, cantón Durán, Ecuador. Mediante el software Plaxis 2D se modeló el proceso de consolidación del terreno blando, comparando dos escenarios: con y sin drenes instalados. Se emplearon ensayos CPTu para obtener los parámetros geotécnicos de entrada y se desarrolló un modelo de elementos finitos. Los resultados indican que los wick drains redujeron el tiempo de consolidación de manera notable: con drenes, el suelo alcanzó más del 90 % de consolidación en aproximadamente 120 días, mientras que sin ellos el proceso tomó más de 500 días. Además, el asentamiento resultó más homogéneo y la distribución de esfuerzos verticales más eficiente. La modelación con Plaxis 2D confirma que esta combinación de técnicas es viable para acelerar la consolidación en suelos arcillosos, lo que puede contribuir directamente a mejorar la planificación de obras sobre terrenos blandos.
