Amaurosis posterior a blefaroplastia: perspectiva médico forense

Abstract

Context: a forensic doctor carries out the expert opinion of medical liability in alleged malpractice during a criminal process; the criterion that is issued has particular relevance due it is an element that allows the judicial authority to give a conviction or to confirm the innocence of the accused. Case presentation: 54-year-old female, with a pathological history of Brugada syndrome; undergoes blepharoplasty, a minor cosmetic surgical procedure. After surgery, she showed high blood pressure. She came at 48 hours for postoperative control, detecting palpebral chemosis, abolishing pupillary reflexes, and bilateral amaurosis on the physical examination. These findings hospitalized her. She was discharged with a diagnosis of optic neuritis and bilateral amaurosis. Conclusion: it is essential in any expert opinion for medical liability to assess the imprudence or medical fault, the damage or injury caused, and the causal relationship, supported by assessments issued by specialists as appropriate.
