Editorial Policies

Open Access Policy

The Rev Fac Cien Med (Quito) adheres to the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) declaration, providing immediate open access to its content (Open Access). This allows any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, index them, transfer them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose without financial, legal, or technical barriers, while respecting the integrity of the authors' work and the right to proper recognition and citation. This policy is based on the principle of offering free public access to research to promote greater global knowledge and scientific exchange.

Copyright and Author Rights

Authors who publish in the Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas (Quito) acknowledge and accept the following conditions:

  • Authors retain their copyright and grant the Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas (Quito) the right of first publication of the manuscript under a Creative Commons License.

  • Since 2013, the Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas (Quito) has been under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Ecuador License, which allows copying and distributing the material in any medium or format, in its original form, solely for non-commercial purposes, provided the creator and primary source are credited. The CC BY-NC-ND license includes the following elements:

    • BY: Credit must be given to the creator.
    • NC: Only non-commercial uses of the work are permitted.
    • ND: No derivative works or adaptations of the original are allowed.
  • For digitized volumes from 1932 onwards, the terms of public domain are applied.

  • Authors retain their copyright and guarantee the Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas (Quito) the right to publish the manuscript through any channels deemed appropriate.

  • Authors are authorized to electronically disseminate their work after the manuscript has been published.

Plagiarism Detection Policy

The Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas (Quito) implements a similarity detection policy. All articles are scanned using a specific anti-plagiarism software under an annual agreement.

Interoperability and Machine-Readable Data Policy

The Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas (Quito) ensures that both full texts and metadata, along with bibliographic references, can be tracked and accessed with permission. The journal supports interoperability under the OAI-PMH protocol for open data and open-source standards.

Archiving and Preservation Policy

La Rev Fac Cien Med (Quito) declares that all digital files and contents of the publications are preserved for long periods on a physical server owned by the Universidad Central del Ecuador. These files are also backed up using the PKP PN system, which deposits the published content via OJS into the PKP preservation network. Similarly, the files are deposited on the Dropbox platform to prevent loss due to damage to the physical server, thus safeguarding their integrity, authenticity, immutability, and accessibility.

Additionally, La Rev Fac Cien Med (Quito) uses the Virtual Health Library (BVS) repository, an initiative by the Pan American Health Organization, with its Regional LILACS – Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences repository for consultations of its content.

No Editorial Processing Fees

The Rev Fac Cien Med (Quito) is funded by the Central University of Ecuador. Therefore, authors are not required to make any financial contributions for the management and publication of their manuscripts.
