Abstract

This text is a review of the book “Morir en Calderón. Structures and funerary rituality”, written by Leonardo Zaldumbide and Daniel Rivera, and carried out with the support of the Metropolitan Institute of Heritage. In it, the authors delve into the cemeteries of Calderón, Santa Mariana de Jesús, Llano Grande, La Capilla and San Miguel del Común, and the ritual practices of their inhabitants to recount the political, social and economic processes that have shaped the Metropolitan District of Quito. It is a book that proposes a funerary heritage beyond the monuments and that looks, above all, at the daily practices around death that give a sense of belonging to a territory.
