n the present work have been made O/W (oil in water) nano-emulsions using soy lecithin, water, and
blends of soy, canola, corn, and sunflower oils. These formulations were studied to determine their efficiency as drug delivery systems for lipophilic drugs. The nano-emulsions were composed of two phases:
the oil phase which contained an amount of model drug (Ibuprofen) on it, and the aqueous phase that
was distilled water. The surfactant used was food grade soy lecithin. The elaboration of the nano-emulsions was made using high energy methods of agitation such as vortex, ultra turrax homogenizer, and
point ultrasound. To characterize the nano-emulsions were used dynamic light scattering equipment
(DLS), which allows us to measure the size of the droplets. To determine the stability of the nano-emulsions were made measurements with optical microscopy and with an atomic force microscope (AFM).
Through the characterization, we determined the emulsions with major stability, and we proceed to make
the drug release tests in a dissolution apparatus coupled with an Ultraviolet-visible Spectrophotometer
to study the release kinetics of the pharmaceutical form.
