Editorial team - features and best practices

Director

It is responsible for the publication, of directing the activities of the Editorial Board, of representing officially and legally the publication.

Editor / Section Editors

It is responsible for directing the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal, the processes of creation and execution of the magazine and proposing actions for the improvement of the publication. 

In the first instance, he reads and accepts the nominated articles that comply with the authors' instructions. It then classifies and reviews the relevance of the content in relation to each section, the investigative support, the structure of the summaries and keywords, as well as the presentation and internal consistency of the article.

For support and guidance purposes, the editor will be supported by section editors (researchers attached to each line of research associated with each section of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal and linked to the research groups of the Faculty.

The editor will be eligible for the "Core practice." (COPE, 2017).

Functions

• To ensure the scientific and editorial quality of the magazine. 
• Chair and guide the Editorial Committee, the Scientific Committee and the Editorial Board. 
• Propose ordinary and extraordinary meetings to the Editorial Committee, Scientific Committee and the Research and Publications Committee. 
• Inform the Editorial Committee about the results of the calls and the reception of articles. 
• Receive and manage articles sent to the magazine. 
• Propose reviewers of the articles before the Editorial Committee. 
• Build a reviewer base and contact them. 
• Issue publication concept by means of an acceptance or rejection, in accordance with the concept of arbitration and request adjustments to the document if any. 
• Establish communication with all participants involved in the publication. 
• Maintain the necessary anonymity of processes that require it. 
• Ensure that all published articles have been peer-reviewed. 
• Supervise the editorial process and support the coordination and production of digital and printed material. 
• Coordinate and support initiatives to train researchers on topics associated with the presentation of articles, publication ethics and all related topics. 
• Coordinate everything related to the website - platform.
• Maintain magazine visibility on the bases where it is indexed and look for indexing options in new SIRs. 
• Submit management report to the Editorial Board.                                                                                
  Editorial Board

  It strives for the fulfillment of the objectives of the publication, the editorial and scientific policy, and the rules of publication; establishes measures that allow to increase the added and differential value of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal, defines the structure of the journal, propose authors and topics for each volume.

  Functions

• Designate the editor-in-chief of the Journal and inform the Board of Trustees of the Faculty. 

• Establish, together with the editor and the Editorial Committee, the editorial policy. 

Support the coordination of the magazine.
 
Editorial Committee

He is responsible for the content that is published in accordance with the institutional and private policies of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal in the academic, scientific and disciplinary.

He will be in the form of professionals of recognized trajectory in each of the sections in which theFIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal is structured. They must be active researchers with recent publications in journals or books.

The composition of the Committee will be defined by recognized researchers from the University, and external to the institution at national and international level. Balanced representation will be maintained for each section of the Magazine.

The Editorial Committee will be assessed and renewed every two years; members will have the possibility of ratifying, being excluded or resigning.

The linkage of the members of the Committee is of an honorary nature and does not generate any type of work or contractual link with the Faculty of Engineering in Geology, Mines, Petroleum and Environmental of the Central University of Ecuador.

Functions

• Establish the editorial policy of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal, in accordance with the editorial policy of the Central University of Ecuador. 

• Define editorial criteria with the editor.

• Maintain the scientific and technical quality of the journal according to the requirements of the indexing and summary systems in force.

• Propose appropriate reviewers for each section of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal.

• Ensure that international ethical standards apply to scientific publications.

• Designate associated or section editors for particular cases.

Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal acts as an advisory body of the Editorial Committee and will be composed of representatives of the national and international academic and scientific community.

The selection of the Committee will be made by candidates presented to the Editorial Board and the editor, which will be ratified by the Editorial Committee of the Magazine.

Functions

• Support the Editorial Committee and the editor in the formulation of editorial policy. 
• Advise the Editorial Committee on aspects related to the quality of the information and editorial content of the magazine. 
• Advise the Editorial Committee and the editor in the definition of the scientific quality parameters of the journal. 
• Propose strategies for the development of the editorial and quality policy of the magazine according to its field of action, in relation to the sections of the publication. 
• Invite recognized members of the national and international academic community to publish their work in the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal. 
• Actively participate in the orientation and search of articles and authors for each section of the publication. 
• Promote the dissemination of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal in national and international academic media. 
• Participate as arbitrators of the work received for publication or suggest to other experts as academic peers.
• International Scientific Committee 
• The International Scientific Committee of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal acts as an advisory body of the Editorial Committee and will be composed of representatives of the international academic and scientific community, with experience in the various areas of the knowledge covered by the journal.
• The selection of the Committee will be made through candidates submitted to the Editorial Board.

International Scientific Committee

The International Scientific Committee of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal acts as an advisory body of the Editorial Committee and will be composed of representatives of the international academic and scientific community, with experience in the various areas of the knowledge covered by the journal. The selection of the Committee will be made by candidates submitted to the Editorial Board.

Functions:

• • Support the Editorial Committee and the editor in the formulation of editorial policy.
  • Propose improvements in aspects related to the quality of information ceinceptic to be published.
  • Propose strategies for the development of the editorial and quality policy of the magazine according to its field of action, in relation to the sections of the publication.
  • Propose relevant topics of scientific publication in the areas of competence of the magazine.
  • Propose improvements to the journal's international scientific dissemination and communication strategies.
  • Suggest recognized members of the international academic community as reviewers in scientific areas of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal.
