Ecuador en su encrucijada política: el remezón electoral del 5 de febrero

Abstract

The present work analyzes the process of sectional elections of February 5 of 2023 in Ecuador, in addition to the elections of members of the Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control, and the referendum, of 8 points, presented by the National Government. Part of the analysis of the social context, marked by inclement violence that, as never, was the prelude to the electoral process, in addition to the cases of corruption that have splashed to the government. Thus, the article exposes a) the main results of the sectional elections, which it´s obviously, the defeat of the right in its main places and a considerable change in the correlation of political forces; b) the defeat of the government in the proposal of a referendum that the country rejected; and, finally, c) the increase in null votes in the last electoral processes, as a relevant phenomenon.
