Abstract

The history of medicine has curious and inexplicable stories, such as the initial rejection of hand washing and anesthesia in surgery. The advancement of scientific knowledge in health sciences occurs at an incommensurable speed, which makes health professionals feel overwhelmed by the amount of biomedical knowledge that is produced annually. For this reason, 21st century healthcare professionals find it necessary to incorporate other skills into their repertoire, such as Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM). Integrity is an ethical principle linked to the valuation of honesty, respect and transparency in professional interactions. Integrity relates to the consistency between the values ​​that are preached and the methods, expectations and results actually achieved with professional interventions.
