Abstract

This article proposes to discuss the (re)emergence of the concept of citizenship in contemporary Ecuadorian politics. For this, it is nourished by the contribution of the new conceptual history, because it strengthens an approach based on language and how it defines reality and not the other way around, assuming that concepts are changing, aporetic and show the ideas of a time, but likewise the sense remains of how these determine a series of practices and materialities in political subjectivity. Therefore, this work consists of two parts: the first where the theoretical guidelines proposed in this document are exposed, in which certain specificities of the concept are exhibited, and finally, a section that clarifies the Ecuadorian case in light of the conceptual history, taking as starting point the fall of Lucio Gutíerrez in 2005.
