Abstract

This paper seeks to explore the various roles of education in relation to society over recent history. From a critical interpretation, we will build bridges between the theoretical and historical roots of education and contemporary processes of transformation of higher education systems. Furthermore, the aimed of this article is intended to be a support for the interpretation of the different processes of convergente in education that are taking place at
the nacional, regional, and global levels.
