Mission
Disseminate the knowledge resulting from research, reflection, intellectual confrontation and innovation, through the publication of articles with a high level of quality, contributing to make knowledge visible and allow self-evaluation and continuous improvement complying with academic rigor and its projection and social commitment in such a way that it produces a sociocultural and scientific impact encouraging the participation of the national and international academic community with affinity thematic to the earth sciences.
Vision
By 2030 to become an arbitrated and indized journal of scientific and technological dissemination, recognized nationally and internationally as a serious and reliable means of dissemination of knowledge for its scientific foundation, flexibility and academic wealth, for its relevance and timeliness to support academic and research work, disseminating reflections of the structure and dynamics of Earth Sciences.
Values
Congruence.- Each author must express their ideas, contributions and personal positions with affinity to the research axes that guide the journal.
Respect.- We assume respect as the autonomy of authors to disseminate their opinions, research and processes in relation to their environment; this value plays a fundamental role in the search for truth, always with an eye on the common good, with objectivity and truthfulness.
Honesty.- Commitment to be guided with coherence and authenticity; respecting and recognizing copyright and freedom of expression; rejecting in a timely manner any action that violates these rights.
Search for truth.- Quality of intelligence by which the human being is trained and perfected to reach the causes of things.
Justice.- Set of principles that we adopt in order to ensure order and coexistence among its members.
Freedom.- Ability to express facts derived from scientific research.
We respect the integrity of others by promoting the common good and respect for difference in being, thinking and doing.
Scope and approach
The journal FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo (ISSN 1390-7042 (print), ISSN 2602-8484 (on line)) is a publication series of open access, peer-reviewed review by pairs (double blind) and indexed, where research results are published original and unpublished, technical studies, and other cases.

The objectives of the JournalFIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo are:
- Promote the dissemination and dissemination of locally, nationally and internationally generated knowledge.
- Form a space for building academic communities and discussing the defined sections.
- Promote the institutional and geographical diversity of the authors involved in the publication.
- To enhance the discussion of scientific experiences and exchanges between researchers and professionals.
- Publish original and unpublished articles that have passed through peer review, to ensure that ethical, quality, scientific validity, editorial and research standards are met.
- Encourage the dissemination of research and activities carried out at the Central University of Ecuador and other IES of Ecuador.
Explanatory notes:
The FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo Journal publishes a limited number of articles by volume and seeks the balance between the sections, which is why, even if an article is accepted or continued to be reviewed, it may be deferred to be published in next issue; in this case, the author will be able to withdraw the application of the article or include it in the bank of articles of the next issue.
The editor and editors of the thematic areas of the FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo are responsible for establishing contact between authors and reviewers, as these processes are carried out anonymously.
Frequency of publication
From 1999 to 2004 and 2010 to 2016, FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo published one volume per year, from 2016 two issues are published per year: June and December, from 2022: January and July.
The FIGEMPA: Research and Development Journal is disseminated through digital versions (PDF, HTML, XML or EPUB) and printed with a circulation of 10 copies, the production times of these versions will depend on the schedules established by the publisher.
Reception-review-acceptance times can take between one to six months depending on the editorial flow of each section and the review and editing process in advance.
With the username and password assigned, authors can enter the editorial management platform and check the status of review, editing or publication of the article.
Magazine history
The FIGEMPA: Investigación y Desarrollo journal is aimed at the academic and professional community in the areas related to the sustainable use of natural resources. The first issue was published in 2000 on an annual basis, from 2016 the periodicity is semi-annual. It is located in Latindex Directory and Catalog 2.0. It is edited by Facultad de Ingeniería en Geología, Minas, Petróleos y Ambiental (FIGEMPA) of Universidad Central del Ecuador in Quito (Ecuador).
