Focus and Scope

Architecture and Society, founded in 1975, has historically been the journal of the Faculty of Architecture at the Central University of Ecuador. The journal's main objective is the dissemination of specialized knowledge related to architecture and all its interdisciplinary, cultural, and social complexity. Architecture and Society accepts unpublished manuscripts, which may be submitted to any of the journal's four sections: Article, Essay, Project, and Art. The journal is aimed at students, professors, researchers, and the general public.

To ensure quality, manuscripts submitted to Architecture and Society must meet the standards of a scientific article or an academic essay.

Publication Frequency

Architecture and Society is published biannually. In the case of special calls for submissions, the volumes will be clearly identified.

Publication Format

Arquitectura y Sociedad currently publishes through special calls for papers, such as the current thematic calls for issues 25-2026 and 26-2026.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Manuscripts submitted in the format indicated in the “Author Guidelines” will undergo a double-blind peer review process. Receipt of a manuscript does not imply any commitment to publication by the journal.

Initially, manuscripts will be received by the Editorial Committee, which will review whether the work aligns with the journal's focus and scope, as well as with its editorial policies and minimum quality standards for writing and content (format review). This review will also verify the level of originality using specialized software (COMPILATIO) and other available digital resources. If any formatting issues are found, the manuscript will be returned to the author along with a revision report. The author must make the necessary formatting corrections to the manuscript before the double-blind peer review phase.

Double-blind peer review is a process used to determine whether the manuscript meets the required quality standards for publication in the journal Arquitectura y Sociedad. Double-blind peer review will only be conducted on manuscripts submitted for the Article and Essay sections. The review will be based on the following criteria: relevance, timeliness, quality, conceptual rigor, clarity of expression, organization, and originality of the information presented in the manuscript.

Based on these criteria, the double-blind peer reviewers will determine whether the article is:

a) Publishable without modifications

b) Publishable with minor modifications

c) Publishable only with major modifications

d) Not publishable

In case of disagreement among the peer reviewers, a third reviewer will be consulted, and their decision will determine whether or not the work is published.

Authors will receive anonymous evaluation reports. Once the revised manuscripts are received, they will be re-evaluated by external reviewers.

Final acceptance of the manuscript is contingent upon the authors incorporating all the corrections and suggestions for improvement made by the reviewers.

The results of the peer review process are final.

The panel of reviewers consists of researchers of recognized prestige in their respective fields. Throughout this process, the Editorial Committee maintains the anonymity of both reviewers (peers) and authors.

SCOPE OF APPLICATION. The Editorial Committee of each academic unit of the Central University of Ecuador will be responsible for managing all manuscripts submitted for publication within its academic unit, with the exception of those published in indexed journals.
