Prostaglandinas, endoperóxidos, tromboxanos y leucotrienos
Resumen
Es muy notable el interés que ha surgido en los últimos años en torno a un grupo de sustancias emparentadas químicamente con los ácidos grasos. Estas sustancias denominadas prostaglandinas tienen un gran potencial terapéutico y su utilización en una variedad de problemas clínicos está virtualmente descubriéndose. Es igualmente muy grande la expectativa que se ha creado en el mundo científico con relación a otras sustancias asociadas igualmente a los ácidos grasos y a las que se les conoce como endoperóxidos, tromboxanos y leucotrienes. No es poca la confusión existente en cuanto al origen, bioquímica y funciones biológicas de estos compuestos. Esta revisión es un esfuerzo pedagógico para sistematizar el conocimiento existente y para facilitar a los estudiantes el acceso a la riquísima y múltiple información disponible.
