Abstract

Introduction: Cervical ectopic pregnancy is defined as the implantation of the blastocyst outside the uterine cavity at the level of the cervix. It is an unusual condition that represents less than 0.1% of all extrauterine pregnancies. Its diagnosis requires ultrasonography images and laboratory results, in addition to clinical suspicion of ectopic pregnancy and requires rapid and effective intervention as it can result in an obstetric emergency.

Objective: Describe a case of cervical ectopic pregnancy, its risk factors, clinical picture, diagnosis and treatment options.

Case presentation: The case of a 34-year-old patient with a diagnosis of cervical ectopic pregnancy, who wishes to preserve her fertility, is presented, in whom clinical management with intramuscular methotrexate is performed at an early stage of pregnancy.

Discussion: This case shows conservative management with pharmacological therapy, however, as the literature mentions, failure with drug treatment with methotrexate occurs and must be complemented with conservative surgical management.

Conclusions: It was shown that conservative treatment in this type of pregnancies is favorable and avoids complex procedures that put the woman's reproductive life at risk.
