Abstract

The article examines the continued relevance of critical thought in Latin America amid neoliberal hegemony, arguing that despite efforts to depoliticize and technocratize public debate, longstanding intellectual traditions persist in challenging structural inequality, dependency, and cultural loss of sovereignty. Albornoz contends that critical thinking remains essential for interpreting contemporary transformations—globalization, state crisis, and shifting social structures—and for shaping emancipatory projects that reclaim the public sphere, strengthen collective action, and contest dominant narratives. Its relevance lies in its ability to interpret reality through Latin American historical experience, dismantle ideological frameworks, and open new horizons for social change.
