Abstract

This text aims to provide a brief historical overview of the de velopment of social poetry in Ecuador during the 20th century. To this end, it first defines what is meant by social poetry. Se condly, it presents a non-exhaustive review of the history of social poetry in Ecuador, seeking to highlight the connections between the various poems and their historical context. The ar ticle seeks to demonstrate that social poetry in Ecuador stands as one of the great pillars of 20th-century poetry due to the relationship poets established with their social environment. This relationship arose, in most cases, thanks to the significant social and political organisation and mobilisation that took place within artistic circles. Thus, social poetry was not merely a vehicle for expressing an aesthetic vision of reality, but a form of engagement with the changing environment.
