Abstract

n December 2023, the libertarian anarcho Javier Milei came to power in Argentina, a country where the progressive Kirchnerista wing of Peronism has been a hegemonic political force in the last two decades. What factors influenced this profound turn in Argentine society? What was the socio-political context, the scene of these transformations? What are the distinctive features and achievements of Milei’s management? These questions are addressed in this article, under an ethnographic situated methodology, being bewildered witnesses of these events. We conclude that Milei represents new libertarian values in the economic sphere, conservative in the moral sphere, and anarchist in the institutional sphere. The paradox is evident in a president who seeks a State that wants to dynamite it and a society that disciplines it so that it is free
