Technology, Ethnocratic Authoritarianism, and Geopolitics: Thinking on Ontotechnology in the 21st Century

An interview with Félix Duque

Abstract

This interview with Félix Duque explores the central role of technology in the contemporary relationship between nature, society, and subjectivity. Drawing on the concept of “ontotechnology,” Duque argues that technology is not merely a set of tools, but rather the historical process that simultaneously produces both human beings and nature, thereby dissolving the notion of a natural exteriority. In dialogue with German idealism, particularly Hegel, he analyzes the transformation of technical mediation into a system that tends to completely occupy the poles it once articulated (society and nature). The conversation also examines the integration of biology and technology, the role of memory in the constitution of time, and the geopolitical implications of technoscience, particularly in relation to current manifestations of authoritarianism. Faced with this scenario, Duque proposes conceiving the task of philosophy as a practice of “perforating” socio-technical layer, aimed at reactivating forgotten historical possibilities and opening spaces of resistance.
