Estética de la sonrisa en ortodoncia

La apreciación de la belleza en una sonrisa está dada por varios factores que podrían marcar diferencias entre Ortodoncistas versus el público en general. Objetivo: Evaluar la percepción de la estética de la sonrisa entre ortodoncistas y no ortodoncistas. Materiales y Métodos: Se aplicó una encuesta virtual, donde se evaluaron las perspectivas en cuanto a la estética de una sonrisa. La muestra fue conformada por 101 profesionales con conocimientos de Ortodoncia y 102 no ortodoncistas, quienes observaron cinco grupos de tres fotografías que fueron modificadas en cada uno de los factores de estética como son: exposición dental, línea media, arco de la sonrisa, exposición gingival y grosor labial; donde los participantes debían clasificarlas, según su criterio como: bella, aceptable o antiestética. Resultados: Se observó por medio de un chi cuadrado con un valor de p < 0,05 que existió diferencias estadísticas significativas entre ortodoncistas y no ortodoncistas. Los primeros calificaron como antiestético a factores como: exposición dental mayor a 5 mm y línea media dental desviada 5mm; mientras que los no ortodoncistas consideraron antiestético a los labios delgados. Conclusiones: La percepción de la estética en una sonrisa por parte de Ortodoncistas y no Ortodoncistas es diferente puesto que los primeros dan prioridad a las piezas dentales antes que a los tejidos blandos circundantes.
