Abstract

Soil health is critical to sustainable agriculture and impacts crop productivity and ecosystem resilience. This talk will explore effective agronomic practices to improve soil health, emphasizing the integration of organic matter, biodiversity, and structural stability. Key strategies such as cover crops, reduced tillage, crop rotation, and organic amendments will be highlighted, showcasing their role in improving soil vitality. The presentation will also focus on practical methods for soil health assessment, introducing essential field and laboratory tests. Field tests such as soil aggregate analysis, infiltration rate measurements, and earthworm counts will be discussed, along with laboratory assessments including nutrient profiles, microbial biomass, and organic matter content analysis. These diagnostic tools enable a comprehensive assessment of soil health, guiding informed management decisions. Attendees will gain knowledge on theoretical concepts and practical tools for effective soil health management, ensuring sustainable agricultural practices and improved crop yields. The talk aims to bridge soil science research with practical agricultural applications, promoting informed and strategic agriculture for better agricultural and environmental outcomes.
