Introduction: The rational use of antibiotics in stomatology is essential to reduce the increase in bacterial resistance to antimicrobials; their proper management allows the prevention, control or elimination of infectious processes caused by different pathogenic microorganisms. Currently, one of the most relevant problems in Dentistry is the irrational use of antibiotics as an adjuvant to dental treatments. Because its misuse triggers bacterial resistance to antimicrobials in patients. For this reason, the rational use of antibiotics has been promoted in various health areas, especially in the field of stomatological medicine. Professionals must be well informed and updated on how and when to prescribe these medications. The rational use of antibiotics implies a careful and evidence-based prescription, prioritizing use when strictly necessary. Objective: The objective of the study is to collect information on the rational use of antibiotics to encourage their appropriate management, Materials and methods: using systematic bibliographic searches in search engines such as Science Direct, Pubmed, Mendeley, Lilacs, Google Scholar, Scielo from 2018 to 2023, Conclusion: It is essential to promote and raise awareness about the best management of antibiotics in all specialized areas of stomatology. This can be achieved by promoting education, communication and guidance towards professionals to improve antimicrobial prescriptions, considering the local and systemic factors of the patients to be treated.
